Viking Repositioning Cruises: 2027 Prices, Routes and What the Fare Includes

Viking repositioning cruises for 2027 start at $2,699 per person, for the 13-night Atlantic Ocean Passage from Barcelona to Fort Lauderdale in December 2027. That’s about $208 a night, and the fare includes port taxes, Wi-Fi, beer and wine with lunch and dinner, and one shore excursion in every port. Our finder lists 51 one-way Viking ocean sailings departing October 2026 to December 2027, each checked on vikingcruises.com in late September 2026, and they run from 7 to 30 nights.

The most useful thing to know about Viking pricing is that the plain ocean crossings are its cheapest nights. Itineraries with more ports and scenery cost far more per night, even on the same ships. The prices below were on Viking’s site on October 6, 2026, during its Fall Sale. Viking repositioning prices for 2027

These are Viking’s lowest listed fares per person, two sharing, on October 6, 2026. Viking’s fares include port taxes and fees, so the per-night figures compare directly. Nights are one fewer than Viking’s “days” count.

The North Pacific Passage pricing page shows the pattern within a single route: the fall Vancouver to Tokyo departures were $200 cheaper than the spring sailings the other way. On the Atlantic Ocean Passage, the December westbound sailing was $600 cheaper than the January eastbound one.

Why the plain crossings are Viking’s cheapest nights

The Atlantic Ocean Passage calls only at Madeira and St. Maarten between Barcelona and Florida. The Iceland, Greenland and Canada voyage stops almost every day, at places such as Akureyri, Nanortalik in Greenland, L’Anse aux Meadows and Halifax, and costs nearly four times as much per night. Viking’s pricing tracks what most of its passengers are paying for, which is the ports.

For a traveler who wants the sea days, that’s the opening. The included excursion in every port matters little on a crossing with two stops, but the rest of the Viking product, the quiet ship, the lectures, the included Wi-Fi and the dining, is all there at the lowest per-night price Viking charges. Viking’s repositioning routes in our finder

Viking Orion and Viking Venus carry 18 of the 51 sailings between them, mostly in Asia and Australia and on the North Pacific Passage. The Europe moves in spring and fall shift ships between the Mediterranean and northern Europe, often as 14-night voyages between Barcelona and Bergen, Reykjavik or London. Choosing between Viking’s Atlantic crossings

Viking sells more distinct Atlantic routes than most lines, each with its own name. These are the ones in our finder for 2026 and 2027:

The December 2027 sailings show how Viking packages a crossing. Viking Vesta leaves Rome on December 7 for a 20-night voyage to Fort Lauderdale, and the last 13 nights, from Barcelona on December 14, are sold separately as the Atlantic Ocean Passage at $2,699. Vesta then continues from Fort Lauderdale to Los Angeles through the Panama Canal on December 28. Booked together, Barcelona to Los Angeles is 30 nights on one ship. Viking Sky follows the same pattern in December 2026, Barcelona to Fort Lauderdale on December 9 and on to Los Angeles on December 22.

In the Pacific, Viking Orion and Viking Venus link their sailings in the same way: Hong Kong to Tokyo, then the North Pacific Passage to Vancouver, 36 nights in spring 2027, or Vancouver to Tokyo and then Tokyo to Bangkok, 50 nights in the fall.

What the Viking fare includes, and what it doesn’t

Viking’s Atlantic Ocean Passage page lists what’s in the fare: one shore excursion in every port, all onboard meals, beer, wine and soft drinks with lunch and dinner, specialty coffees, teas and bottled water around the clock, port taxes and fees, Wi-Fi, access to the Nordic Spa and fitness center, and the alternative restaurants at no extra charge. What’s not included:

• Gratuities. Viking’s booking terms say gratuities on board and on land are not included in the fare and that tipping is customary. Some promotions include them on select departures. • Drinks outside meals. Beer and wine come with lunch and dinner. A cocktail at the bar in the afternoon is extra unless you buy a beverage package.
• Optional excursions. Viking sells extra tours beyond the included one, which matters on port-heavy routes and hardly at all on a crossing.
• Flights. Viking sells air with the cruise and runs reduced-airfare offers, but the cruise-only fare above doesn’t include it.

On a sea-day-heavy crossing, the included items that count are Wi-Fi and the dining, since you’re aboard all day. The included excursion counts least.

Adults only, and under 1,000 guests

Viking’s terms say its ships have no facilities or services for anyone under 18, and every guest must be 18 or older on or before embarkation. That is the most common reason travelers choose Viking for a long voyage: a two-week crossing with no children aboard, by policy rather than by season.

The ships are small by current standards. The newest, Viking Vesta, built in 2025, carries 998 guests, with every stateroom having a veranda. The design leans on indoor space with sea views, including the Explorers’ Lounge, which on a gray mid-Atlantic day is the kind of room that makes a crossing pleasant. The North Atlantic via Iceland and Greenland

Viking runs a summer route most lines don’t: Iconic Iceland, Greenland and Canada, between Reykjavik and New York, in both directions through the summer of 2027. It calls at Heimaey and Akureyri in Iceland, Nanortalik and Qaqortoq in Greenland, L’Anse aux Meadows in Newfoundland and Halifax, with sea days across the Atlantic and the Labrador Sea. It’s the most expensive voyage per night in the table above, and for good reason: it’s a port-intensive expedition-style route rather than a crossing in the repositioning sense.

Booking a Viking repositioning cruise

Viking’s fares move with its sales calendar. When we checked, the Fall Sale offered special fares, reduced airfare and a $25 deposit through October 31, 2026. The prices in this guide are from that sale.

Because Viking’s fares are high and cancellation terms apply, price the flight home before you book. A Lisbon to San Juan crossing at $2,899 is good value; the same voyage with an expensive last-minute flight home from Puerto Rico is less so.
