MSC repositioning cruises are sold as Grand Voyages, and they’re built around Europe rather than the US. Of the 32 MSC one-way sailings in our finder, departing October 2026 to December 2027 and each checked on msccruisesusa.com in late September 2026, 13 sail between the Mediterranean and Brazil or Argentina. Seven cross between Europe and Florida or the Caribbean, and the rest move ships around Europe, through the Suez Canal or through the Panama Canal between Miami and Seattle.
Two things set MSC apart on a crossing. The voyages are long, with a median of 19.5 nights in our data against 14 to 16 for the big American lines. And the pricing works differently: the same crossing sells from several ports at several prices, and some service charges are in euros. The current list is below this guide, and the repositioning cruise finder filters it by month and port.
What MSC means by a Grand Voyage
MSC’s own repositioning page uses “repositioning cruises” and “MSC Grand Voyages” for the same thing: one-way voyages with different start and end ports, between 12 and 28 nights, as ships move between seasons. The routes it describes are the ones in our data: the Mediterranean to the Caribbean, Europe to Salvador and Rio de Janeiro, the Suez Canal toward the Middle East and South Africa, and the Panama Canal from Miami to Los Angeles and Seattle.
What MSC doesn’t do much is move ships within North America. There are no Alaska-season coastal runs in our data, and only one ship, MSC Poesia, uses the Panama Canal, sailing Miami to Seattle in April 2027 and back in September.
Where MSC’s ships go
| Route | Sailings | Nights | Typical ports |
|---|---|---|---|
| Europe and South America | 13 | 18 to 27 | Naples, Rome, Marseille or Southampton and Santos or Buenos Aires, via Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, Tenerife |
| Within Europe | 8 | 8 to 14 | Kiel, Copenhagen or Stockholm to Genoa; Rome to the Canaries |
| Europe to US and Caribbean | 5 | 18 to 23 | Marseille, Genoa or Rome to Miami, Port Canaveral, La Romana, Martinique, Guadeloupe |
| US and Caribbean to Europe | 2 | 17 to 20 | Miami to Tarragona; Martinique to Palma de Mallorca |
| Suez Canal and South Africa | 2 | 29 to 31 | Cape Town to Venice; Alicante to Durban, via Mauritius |
| Panama Canal | 2 | 18 to 19 | Miami and Seattle via Cartagena, Cabo San Lucas, Los Angeles |
Sixteen MSC ships appear in the list, from the older, smaller Armonia and Sinfonia on the Suez voyages to MSC World Europa and MSC World Asia on the Caribbean crossings. Rio de Janeiro is on all 13 of the South America sailings.
Europe to the USA: the fall 2026 and 2027 crossings
For American travelers, the westbound crossings are the ones that end at home. In our data:
- MSC Meraviglia, Marseille to Miami, 23 nights from October 19, 2026, via Barcelona, Ponta Delgada in the Azores, Boston and New York.
- MSC Grandiosa, Marseille to Port Canaveral, 20 nights from October 25, 2026, via Barcelona, Funchal, San Juan and Miami.
- MSC Opera, Rome to La Romana, 18 nights from October 29, 2026, via Barcelona, Tangier, Antigua and St. Maarten.
- MSC World Europa, Genoa to Fort-de-France, Martinique, 21 nights from November 14, 2026.
- MSC World Asia, Marseille to Pointe-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe, 22 nights from October 30, 2027.
Meraviglia’s routing is unusual: it reaches North America in New England and works down the coast, calling at Boston and New York before the ship turns south for Miami. The eastbound return trips run in April 2027, Miami to Tarragona and Martinique to Palma. Our guide to westbound transatlantic crossings explains the fall weather and the extra hours you gain each night.
Brazil and Argentina: MSC’s biggest crossing route
MSC runs a full South American summer season, and the ships get there and back on long Atlantic voyages. Southbound sailings leave Naples, Rome, Marseille, Southampton or even Kusadasi in Turkey between late October and mid-November, take 18 to 25 nights and arrive in Santos (for Sao Paulo) or Buenos Aires in time for the southern summer. Northbound sailings leave in March and early April for Italy, Spain or France.
These are the voyages where MSC’s European identity is strongest, since many passengers are heading home or on holiday from Brazil or Europe. They’re also outside most American travelers’ radar, which is part of their appeal. Our South America repositioning guide covers the seasons, the equator crossing and the flights.
Suez, South Africa and the Panama Canal: MSC’s longest voyages
MSC’s four longest sailings in our data go where few other mainstream lines reposition. MSC Armonia sails Cape Town to Venice (Marghera) in 29 nights from March 29, 2027, via Durban, Mauritius, Aqaba and the Suez Canal, at the end of MSC’s South African summer season. MSC Sinfonia goes the other way in October 2027, Alicante to Durban in 31 nights through the Suez Canal, with calls in the Seychelles and Mauritius. Both are older, smaller ships, which suits a month at sea for travelers who prefer a quieter vessel.
On the American side, MSC Poesia links Miami and Seattle through the Panama Canal: 18 nights northbound from April 8, 2027, and 19 nights southbound from September 27, 2027, via Cartagena, Cabo San Lucas and Los Angeles. It is MSC’s only Panama Canal voyage in our data and one of the few ways to sail MSC on the West Coast.
The Yacht Club on a long crossing
MSC Yacht Club is the line’s ship-within-a-ship, with its own lounge, restaurant and pool area on many ships, and its fares include the Premium Extra drink package on every cruise. On a short cruise, you pay the Yacht Club premium for only a few days of use. On a 20-night Grand Voyage, the math changes: you use the private areas every day, drinks are included when they otherwise wouldn’t be, and the Yacht Club service charge is still in euros on European departures, at 16 euros a night. If you’re comparing an MSC Yacht Club crossing with a premium line, add up the drinks and the service charge on the other line first.
How MSC prices a crossing
MSC sells many Grand Voyages from several embarkation ports besides the first one. On October 6, 2026, its US site listed the same MSC Grandiosa voyage that leaves Marseille on October 25 as a 14-night crossing from Barcelona on October 31, and MSC Opera’s Rome departure as a 15-night voyage from Marseille or a 14-night one from Barcelona. It even sold the first three or four nights of World Europa’s crossing, Genoa to Marseille or Barcelona, as short cruises on their own.
| Voyage on msccruisesusa.com, October 6, 2026 | Nights | From, per person | Per night |
|---|---|---|---|
| MSC Grandiosa, Barcelona to Port Canaveral, Oct 31, 2026 | 14 | $526 | About $38 |
| MSC Opera, Barcelona to La Romana, Nov 2, 2026 | 14 | $556 | About $40 |
| MSC Grandiosa, Barcelona to Miami, Oct 31, 2026 | 13 | $565 | About $43 |
| MSC Opera, Marseille to La Romana, Nov 1, 2026 | 15 | $599 | About $40 |
MSC states that these prices include all fees and taxes, based on two sharing. They are close-in fares for sailings less than a month away, so expect them to change daily. At around $40 a night, they’re the lowest crossing fares we saw on any line’s own site.
The other lever is the fare type. MSC’s experiences page describes Bella as a guaranteed stateroom: MSC picks your cabin up to four days before departure, and it may have an obstructed or promenade view. Fantastica lets you choose your cabin and includes one free cruise change and free room service delivery, and Aurea adds better locations and priority boarding. On a 14-night crossing, the Bella gamble on cabin location matters more than on a short cruise, because you’ll live with it for two weeks.
Service charges in euros, and drinks not included
MSC adds a daily hotel service charge, and on Grand Voyages the rate depends on where the voyage starts. These are the rates on MSC’s US service charge page in October 2026:
| Voyage type | Adults, per night | Children, per night | Yacht Club adults |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grand Voyages from the Mediterranean or Northern Europe | 12 euros (from 18) | 10 euros (ages 2 to 17) | 16 euros |
| Grand Voyages from South America, the Caribbean or Alaska | $17 (from 18) | $14 (ages 2 to 17) | $21 |
| Caribbean, Alaska and US cruises | $17 (from age 2) | $17 | $23 |
So a westbound crossing from Barcelona is charged in euros at a lower nightly rate than an MSC Caribbean week, and children pay less. Our sister site explains how cruise gratuities and service charges work.
Drinks are the other surprise. The MSC drinks package FAQ says packages are not included on Grand Voyages by default, though a travel agency offer or promotion may add them, and Yacht Club guests get the Premium Extra package on every cruise. Packages include gratuities and cap alcoholic drinks at 15 a day.
Who an MSC crossing suits
MSC suits travelers who want the most time at sea for the least money and enjoy being one nationality among many. The ships are large and mostly young, and the fares are the lowest we found. It suits travelers who want an American-style ship less well: Carnival is the closest budget alternative with a US crowd. For more ways to cut the fare, see our guide to cheap repositioning cruises, and for UK-based travelers comparing MSC with the British line Marella, see Marella repositioning cruises.
The planning tip that saves the most: price the same voyage from every port it calls at in Europe. Boarding in Barcelona instead of Marseille or Genoa cuts a few days off the cruise, but it can also cut the fare and gives you an easier flight in, since Barcelona is much better served by flights from the US.

Questions before booking
What are MSC Grand Voyages?
MSC Grand Voyages are the line's repositioning cruises: one-way sailings, usually 12 to 28 nights, that move ships between seasons. They include transatlantic crossings between Europe and the US or Caribbean, voyages from the Mediterranean to Brazil and Argentina, Panama Canal sailings between Miami and Seattle, and long routes through the Suez Canal to South Africa.
Does MSC have repositioning cruises from Europe to the USA in 2026?
Yes. In fall 2026, MSC Meraviglia sails Marseille to Miami in 23 nights via Barcelona, the Azores, Boston and New York, and MSC Grandiosa sails Marseille to Port Canaveral in 20 nights. Both can also be booked from Barcelona for a shorter, cheaper crossing. Other fall 2026 voyages end in La Romana and Martinique.
How much is an MSC transatlantic cruise?
On October 6, 2026, MSC's US site listed a 14-night MSC Grandiosa crossing from Barcelona to Port Canaveral from $526 per person, taxes and fees included, about $38 a night. A 13-night Barcelona to Miami crossing was $565. Service charges, drinks and Wi-Fi come on top.
Are drinks included on MSC Grand Voyages?
Not by default. MSC says drink packages are not included on Grand Voyages unless a travel agency offer or promotion adds them. Yacht Club guests get the Premium Extra package on all cruises. Packages bought separately include gratuities and cap alcoholic drinks at 15 per day.
Is MSC good for Americans on a long crossing?
It works well for travelers who enjoy an international ship. On European Grand Voyages, much of the crowd is European, announcements come in several languages and the onboard currency may be euros. Travelers who want an American-style cruise with US humor and familiar routines usually prefer Carnival, Norwegian or Royal Caribbean.

Best Cruise Lines for Repositioning Cruises: A Line-by-Line Comparison
For most people, the best cruise lines for repositioning cruises are Princess, Holland America and Celebrity, which pair steady mid-size or large ships with strong sea-day programs at mainstream prices. MSC and Carnival are cheapest per night. Cunard's Queen Mary 2 is the choice for a classic Atlantic crossing, Viking for a quiet adults-only ship, and Regent for all-inclusive luxury. Norwegian suits solo travelers and people who dislike fixed dining.

Carnival Repositioning Cruises: Gulf Coast Canal Runs, 2027 Europe Crossings and Australia
Carnival repositioning cruises are a small, unusual program: our finder lists 26 one-way Carnival sailings from October 2026 to December 2027, checked on carnival.com. The standouts are 16-night Panama Canal runs between Seattle and Gulf Coast ports such as Mobile and Galveston, five transatlantic crossings tied to a 2027 Europe season, South America on Carnival Firenze, and moves around Australia and Asia.
