Carnival repositioning cruises are fewer than most big lines’, and they run on routes other lines don’t use. Our finder lists 26 one-way Carnival sailings departing October 2026 to December 2027, each checked on carnival.com in late September 2026. The most distinctive are 16-night Panama Canal voyages between Seattle and the Gulf Coast, from Mobile, Galveston and Tampa. Carnival also crosses the Atlantic five times in this period for a 2027 Europe season, sends Carnival Firenze to South America and moves its Australian fleet around Asia and the Pacific.

What’s missing matters too. The earlier version of this guide described regular Pacific coast runs between Los Angeles, Vancouver and Seattle. Our check of carnival.com found none in the current schedule, so plan around the routes below. The live list appears under this guide, and the repositioning cruise finder shows them by month.

Carnival repositioning at a glance

Route Sailings Nights Ships and ports
Australia, Asia and New Zealand 8 2 to 16 Carnival Adventure, Luminosa, Splendor: Sydney, Brisbane, Singapore, Auckland
US coast and Europe coastal 5 9 to 12 Carnival Firenze Miami and New York; Miracle and Sunshine from Dover
Panama Canal 4 16 Carnival Spirit and Legend: Seattle and Mobile, Galveston, Tampa
Transatlantic, Europe to US 3 13 to 15 Rome or Barcelona to Tampa, Miami, Baltimore
Transatlantic, US to Europe 2 14 to 15 Galveston to Lisbon; Norfolk to Dover
South America 2 15 to 16 Carnival Firenze: Long Beach to Santiago; Buenos Aires to Miami
Transpacific 2 15 to 23 Carnival Luminosa: Sydney to San Francisco; San Francisco to Tokyo

Eight Carnival ships appear in the list. Carnival Luminosa has the most sailings, five, as it moves from Asia to Australia, across the Pacific to San Francisco, then on to Japan.

Seattle to the Gulf Coast through the Panama Canal

This is the part of Carnival’s program no other line matches. Carnival Spirit sails from Seattle in summer and from the Gulf Coast in winter, and it moves between the two through the canal:

  • Seattle to Mobile, 16 nights, October 8, 2026.
  • Mobile to Seattle, 16 nights, March 29, 2027.
  • Seattle to Galveston, 16 nights, September 25, 2027.

Carnival Legend adds a fourth, Tampa to Seattle in 16 nights on April 4, 2027, with an extra stop in Acapulco. All four call at Cabo San Lucas and Cartagena and make a full canal transit. For travelers in Alabama, Texas, Louisiana or Florida, these are rare chances to drive to a Panama Canal cruise and fly home only once. Our guides to repositioning cruises from Galveston and repositioning cruises from Seattle list the other lines using those ports, and the Panama Canal repositioning guide explains the transit day.

Carnival’s 2027 Europe moves: Galveston, Norfolk and Dover

In 2027, two Carnival ships spend the summer in Europe, and they get there from ports other lines rarely use for crossings:

  • Carnival Miracle, Galveston to Lisbon, 14 nights, May 6, 2027, via Bermuda, Ponta Delgada and Funchal. It continues Lisbon to Dover in 9 nights and later Dover to Rome in 9, before crossing back Rome to Baltimore in 15 nights on November 5.
  • Carnival Sunshine, Norfolk to Dover, 15 nights, May 15, 2027, via St. John’s in Newfoundland, Greenock for Glasgow, Belfast and Cork. It continues Dover to Barcelona in 10 nights and returns Barcelona to Miami in 13 nights on October 16.

Carnival Legend also crosses this fall, Rome to Tampa in 15 nights on November 1, 2026. Sunshine’s route is one of the more unusual crossings from the US East Coast in this period: a northern routing with four British and Irish stops instead of the Azores and Spain.

One Carnival rule matters on these voyages. Its CHEERS drink package starts on day 2 for ships leaving Texas, Norfolk and New York, so on Miracle’s Galveston departure and Sunshine’s Norfolk departure, the first evening’s drinks are paid for separately.

Carnival Firenze’s South American voyages

Carnival Firenze makes a South American trip in early 2027. The two one-way legs in our finder are Long Beach to San Antonio (for Santiago, Chile) in 15 nights from January 4, via Acapulco, Manta in Ecuador and Callao for Lima, and Buenos Aires to Miami in 16 nights from February 2, via Rio de Janeiro, Maceio, Martinique and St. Maarten. Firenze then sails Miami to New York in 11 nights in May 2027 and New York to Port Canaveral in 12 nights in November.

For a mainstream American line, this is rare territory. Our South America repositioning guide covers the seasons and flight logistics.

Australia and Asia: the ships that joined from P&O

Carnival is now Australia’s largest cruise line. The former P&O Cruises Australia ships Pacific Adventure and Pacific Encounter became Carnival Adventure and Carnival Encounter in March 2025, according to Carnival Australia, joining Carnival Splendor and, for the summer season, Carnival Luminosa. Moving that fleet produces eight one-way sailings in our finder: Sydney to Singapore in 14 or 15 nights via Airlie Beach, Darwin and Bali, Singapore or Hong Kong to Brisbane in 14 to 16 nights, short Sydney and Auckland hops, and two 2-night positioning trips from Melbourne or Brisbane to Sydney.

The biggest is Carnival Luminosa’s 23-night crossing from Sydney to San Francisco on April 6, 2027, via Fiji, Tahiti, Moorea and Honolulu. Luminosa then sails San Francisco to Tokyo in 15 nights in October 2027, by way of Ketchikan, Icy Strait Point and northern Japan. Our Australia repositioning guide covers the other lines on these routes.

Linking two Carnival sailings

Three Carnival ships go straight from one one-way voyage into the next in our data, which turns a crossing into a longer trip without a hotel night in between:

  • Galveston to London, 23 nights: Carnival Miracle, Galveston to Lisbon on May 6, 2027, then Lisbon to Dover on May 20, via Porto, Bilbao, Bordeaux and Le Havre.
  • Norfolk to Barcelona, 25 nights: Carnival Sunshine, Norfolk to Dover on May 15, 2027, then Dover to Barcelona on May 30, via Le Havre, Bilbao, Lisbon and Alicante.
  • Brisbane to San Francisco, 25 nights: Carnival Luminosa, Brisbane to Sydney on April 4, 2027, then Sydney to San Francisco on April 6.

The two European pairs are the most interesting for American travelers. You board in Texas or Virginia, cross the Atlantic, and see Portugal, Spain and France on the way to London or Barcelona, all on a ship priced like a Carnival ship. Book both legs together and ask to keep the same cabin.

Getting home from Carnival’s arrival ports

The drive-to departure ports are the big advantage, but each one-way trip still needs a way home. Seattle, Tampa, Miami and Baltimore have plenty of domestic flights. Galveston has no airline service of its own, so travelers usually fly from Houston, about an hour away; Mobile has a regional airport, with New Orleans as a larger alternative. Dover is about two hours from London by road, so plan a transfer to Heathrow or Gatwick rather than assuming a quick airport run. Our guide to flights home after a repositioning cruise covers timing and one-way fares.

What it costs: fare, gratuities and CHEERS

Carnival’s fares are among the lowest. On October 6, 2026, carnival.com listed Carnival Spirit’s 16-night Mobile to Seattle voyage from $931 per person, average for two in a room, with taxes and fees included. That’s about $58 a night. Extras then add a lot.

Carnival’s gratuity guidelines are $17 per person per day in standard staterooms and $19 in suites, and bar purchases carry a 20% service charge. The CHEERS package costs $69.95 per person per day if bought before sailing, plus a 20% service charge, covers up to 15 alcoholic drinks a day priced up to $20, and must be bought by every adult in the stateroom for the full cruise. Here’s how that adds up for two adults on the Mobile to Seattle voyage:

Item, two adults, 16 nights Cost
Cruise fare from $931 each, taxes included $1,862
Gratuities at $17 per person per day $544
Subtotal without drinks $2,406
CHEERS at $69.95 plus 20%, both adults About $2,686
Total with CHEERS About $5,092

On a long, cheap voyage, the drink package can cost more than the cruise. If you’d have three or four drinks a day, pay as you go instead. Our sister site’s guide to whether cruise drink packages are worth it has the break-even math.

Who a Carnival repositioning cruise suits

Carnival suits travelers who want a low fare, a lively ship and an American crowd, and families who want something for children to do on sea days. It’s a natural fit for anyone near Mobile, Galveston, Tampa or Norfolk who would rather drive to the ship than fly. It suits people looking for a quiet, lecture-filled crossing less well.

If price is the main concern, compare it with MSC, whose Grand Voyages were cheaper per night in our October 2026 checks but have a more international crowd and fewer US ports. And book the Gulf Coast canal runs early: with only four of them in 15 months, there’s no second date if the one you want sells out.

Questions before booking

Does Carnival do repositioning cruises?

Yes, though fewer than most big lines. Our finder lists 26 Carnival one-way sailings for October 2026 to December 2027: Panama Canal runs between Seattle and Mobile, Galveston or Tampa, transatlantic crossings in fall 2026, May 2027 and fall 2027, South American voyages on Carnival Firenze, and moves between Australia, Asia and New Zealand.

Does Carnival have a transatlantic cruise in 2027?

Yes. In our data, Carnival Miracle sails Galveston to Lisbon in 14 nights on May 6, 2027, and Carnival Sunshine sails Norfolk to Dover in 15 nights on May 15, 2027, via Newfoundland, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Ireland. Both return west in the fall: Sunshine Barcelona to Miami in October, Miracle Rome to Baltimore in November.

How long is the Carnival cruise from Seattle to Galveston?

Sixteen nights. Carnival Spirit sails Seattle to Galveston on September 25, 2027, via Cabo San Lucas, the Panama Canal and Cartagena. The same ship sails Seattle to Mobile in October 2026 and Mobile to Seattle in March 2027, also in 16 nights.

Is CHEERS worth it on a Carnival repositioning cruise?

Only if you drink a lot. CHEERS costs $69.95 per adult per day before sailing plus a 20% service charge, about $84 a day, and every adult in the cabin must buy it. On a 16-night cruise that's about $1,343 per person, which can be more than the cruise fare itself.

Does Carnival do Pacific coast repositioning cruises?

Not in its current schedule. Our finder found no Carnival coastal runs between Vancouver, Seattle and Los Angeles for October 2026 to December 2027. Carnival's West Coast moves in this period go through the Panama Canal to the Gulf, or across the Pacific between Australia and San Francisco.

Cunard Transatlantic Crossings and Repositioning Voyages Explained

A Cunard transatlantic crossing on Queen Mary 2 is a scheduled liner service: seven nights between New York and Southampton, running in both directions through most of the year, with no ports in between. It is not a repositioning cruise and is priced as a product in its own right. Cunard's other ships, Queen Anne, Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria, make genuine one-way repositioning voyages of 9 to 20 nights.
