NCL repositioning cruises are first of all transatlantic crossings. Of the 49 Norwegian Cruise Line one-way sailings in our finder, departing October 2026 to December 2027 and each checked on ncl.com in late September 2026, 23 cross the Atlantic, most in 12 to 16 nights. The rest are Panama Canal voyages, Pacific coast runs, moves within Asia and the South Pacific, and a handful of East Coast and Gulf sailings.
What sets Norwegian apart is where its crossings land. Other lines mostly use Miami and Fort Lauderdale. Norwegian’s 2026-2027 crossings also reach Jacksonville, Port Canaveral, Tampa, New York and Philadelphia, which for many American travelers means a shorter trip home. The current list is below this guide, and you can sort it in the repositioning cruise finder.

Seventeen Norwegian ships appear in the list, from the older Norwegian Sun, Spirit and Jade to the Prima-class Norwegian Prima, Viva and Aura. Prima-class ships cross in both seasons: Prima sails San Juan to Rome in 17 nights in April 2027 and Southampton to New York in October, and Viva sails Miami to Barcelona in May and Lisbon to Miami in November.
Crossings to ports other lines skip
These are the Norwegian crossings in our data that start or end somewhere other than South Florida:
- Jacksonville: Norwegian Dawn sails Lisbon to Jacksonville in 14 nights on November 1, 2026, returns Jacksonville to Lisbon in 15 nights on April 4, 2027, and sails Barcelona to Jacksonville on November 5, 2027.
- Philadelphia: Norwegian Pearl sails Venice (Ravenna) to Philadelphia in 13 nights on November 1, 2026, via Malta, Alicante and Motril.
- Tampa: Norwegian Gem sails Rome to Tampa in 15 nights on November 1, 2026.
- New York: three crossings from Southampton (October 2026, September 2027, October 2027), and Norwegian Gem’s 19-night New York to Venice (Ravenna) voyage in April 2027.
- Port Canaveral: Norwegian Escape and Norwegian Epic from Barcelona in late October and November 2026, and Epic again in October 2027.
Four of the crossings also call at Great Stirrup Cay, Norwegian’s private island in the Bahamas, on the way into or out of Florida. That gives you a beach day at the end of a westbound crossing, and a warm one before an eastbound one. For the Florida side of the Atlantic, see our guide to repositioning cruises from Florida to Europe, and for the northern ports, repositioning cruises from New York and Boston.
Northern or southern: two ways across
Most Norwegian crossings take the southern route, via Cadiz, Casablanca, the Canary Islands, Madeira or Ponta Delgada in the Azores. Ponta Delgada is the most common stop in our data, on 10 of the 23 crossings, followed by Cadiz on six. These are the calmer, warmer routings in spring and late fall.
The Southampton to New York crossings take a northern route instead. Norwegian Sun’s October 2026 sailing calls at Le Havre, Cobh in Ireland, Belfast and Halifax, and Norwegian Prima’s October 2027 crossing goes via Amsterdam, Le Havre, Cobh and Halifax. More port stops break up the ocean days, but the North Atlantic in October is cooler and rougher than the route via the Azores. Our guide to whether transatlantic cruises are rough compares the two by month, and the westbound direction gives you an extra hour on several nights, as our guide to time changes at sea explains.
Panama Canal and the West Coast
Norwegian’s seven Panama Canal voyages run 15 to 22 nights. Norwegian Joy links Los Angeles and Miami in 15 to 17 nights in October 2026, April 2027 and September 2027, via Cabo San Lucas, Puntarenas and Cartagena. Norwegian Star runs Miami to San Diego and back in December 2026 and February 2027. The longest are Norwegian Bliss’s coast-to-coast moves: New York to Seattle in 22 nights in April 2027, and Los Angeles to New York in 20 nights in October 2027. Our Panama Canal repositioning guide covers the transit day and which side to book.
On the Pacific coast, Norwegian Encore and Norwegian Joy run 6- and 7-night trips between Vancouver and Los Angeles in April, May and October, usually via San Francisco and Victoria. Norwegian Jade covers the North Pacific: Tokyo to Vancouver in 16 nights in April 2027 and Seattle to Tokyo in 15 nights in September, both via Alaska and Hakodate.
Asia, the South Pacific, South America and Dubai
Norwegian’s smaller, older ships handle its moves outside the Atlantic and the Americas. Norwegian Jade shifts between Tokyo and Hong Kong in 9 to 11 nights in November 2026, February 2027 and November 2027, via Osaka, Hiroshima, Nagasaki and Taipei. Norwegian Spirit sails between Sydney and Lautoka in Fiji in 11 to 12 nights, via Brisbane, Noumea, Port Vila and Mystery Island in Vanuatu.
Two longer voyages stand out. Norwegian Sun sails Athens (Piraeus) to Dubai in 21 nights from September 5, 2027, via Alexandria, Aqaba, Jeddah and Muscat. And Norwegian Star sails Lisbon to Buenos Aires in 15 nights from December 2, 2027, via Cape Verde, Recife, Rio de Janeiro and Montevideo, for the South American summer. Our South America repositioning guide covers that route.
Linking two Norwegian sailings
Several Norwegian ships go straight from a crossing into another one-way voyage, so you can stay aboard for three or four weeks:
- Southampton to San Diego, 30 nights: Norwegian Star, Southampton to Miami on November 20, 2026, then Miami to San Diego through the Panama Canal on December 4.
- San Diego to Barcelona, 31 nights: Norwegian Star again, San Diego to Miami on February 13, 2027, then Miami to Barcelona on March 1.
- Tampa to Venice, 29 nights: Norwegian Gem, Tampa to New York on April 3, 2027, then New York to Venice (Ravenna) on April 13.
- Vancouver to Miami, 22 nights: Norwegian Joy, Vancouver to Los Angeles on October 1, 2026, then Los Angeles to Miami through the canal on October 7.
Solo travelers: Studios and cabins priced for one
Norwegian is still the first line to check if you’re crossing alone. Its solo stateroom page says Studios and solo inside, oceanview and balcony staterooms are priced for one, and solo guests share a Studio Lounge with coffee and snacks, though the lounge and the cabin layouts vary by ship. Book a regular cabin for one and you pay a single supplement, as on most lines.
The old version of this page said every other major line charges a full single supplement. That’s no longer accurate: some Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Cunard ships also have single cabins. Norwegian simply has more of them, across more ships, which on a two-week crossing is the difference between affordable and not for many solo travelers.
More At Sea on a crossing
Norwegian’s bundle is More At Sea: an unlimited open bar, specialty dining meals, Starlink Wi-Fi and a shore excursion credit, according to the line’s More At Sea guide. The excursion credit is $50 per port. That’s the part to discount on a crossing: a 14-night transatlantic with four port calls earns $200, against $500 or more on a port-heavy two weeks in Europe.
The rest of the bundle goes the other way. Six sea days in a row is when you use Wi-Fi, a bar and the specialty restaurants most. Read the promotion terms before booking, since the number of specialty meals and the Wi-Fi allowance vary by sailing length and cabin category. Our sister site’s guide to whether drink packages are worth it has the break-even math.
The service charge and the real daily cost
Norwegian adds a service charge of $20 per person per day for Studios, inside, oceanview, balcony and Club Balcony Suite guests and $25 for suites and The Haven, for every guest aged 3 and older, according to its service charge FAQ. A 20% charge is added to drinks, specialty dining and spa services. Over 14 nights, two people in a balcony pay $560 in service charges before anything else.
| Crossing length | Service charge, standard cabin, per person | Suite or Haven, per person |
|---|---|---|
| 12 nights | $240 | $300 |
| 14 nights | $280 | $350 |
| 16 nights | $320 | $400 |
| 22 nights (Panama Canal, New York to Seattle) | $440 | $550 |
That’s the highest standard-cabin daily charge of the big US lines, above Royal Caribbean’s $18.50 and Carnival’s $17. It’s worth adding before comparing a Norwegian fare with a competitor’s. For the rest of the comparison, see our guide to the best cruise lines for repositioning cruises.
The planning tip specific to Norwegian: search by arrival port as well as by month. With crossings ending in Jacksonville, Port Canaveral, Tampa, New York and Philadelphia, the cheapest overall trip is often the one that lands closest to home, even if a Miami crossing has a slightly lower fare.

Questions before booking
Does NCL have repositioning cruises in fall 2026?
Yes. Our finder lists Norwegian transatlantic crossings departing in October and November 2026, including Barcelona to Port Canaveral on Norwegian Escape and Epic, Lisbon to Jacksonville on Norwegian Dawn, Rome to Tampa on Norwegian Gem and Southampton to New York and Miami. Norwegian Joy also sails Los Angeles to Miami through the Panama Canal in October 2026.
What ports do Norwegian transatlantic cruises leave from?
In Europe, mainly Barcelona, Lisbon, Southampton, Rome (Civitavecchia), Tarragona and Venice (Ravenna). In the US, Norwegian crossings start or end in Miami, Port Canaveral, Jacksonville, Tampa, New York and Philadelphia, plus San Juan in Puerto Rico. That spread makes it easier to find a crossing that ends near home.
Does Norwegian charge a single supplement on repositioning cruises?
Not in its solo staterooms. Norwegian says its Studios and solo inside, oceanview and balcony staterooms are priced for one person, and they come with access to a Studio Lounge where the ship has one. In a regular cabin booked for one, a single supplement applies as on most lines.
Is More At Sea worth it on a transatlantic crossing?
The drinks, Wi-Fi and specialty dining parts are worth more on a crossing than on a port-heavy cruise, because you are aboard all day for a week. The shore excursion credit is less useful, since Norwegian gives it per port and a crossing may have only three or four calls.
What is the NCL service charge on a 14-night crossing?
Norwegian adds $20 per person per day for Studios, inside, oceanview, balcony and Club Balcony Suite guests, and $25 for suites and The Haven, for everyone aged 3 and up. On a 14-night crossing that's $280 per person in a standard cabin. Drinks and specialty dining carry a separate 20% charge.
